Showcasing Innovation in Sustainable Manufacturing

Leading manufacturing experts from research, academia, industry and policy presented the research results of the EU FP7-funded Use-it-Wisely project at an event in Neth-ER (Netherlands House of Education and Research) today, 18th October 2016.

Results will have widespread impact for European manufacturers, enabling the adaption of high investment complex products and services in rapidly changing markets. Speakers examined how this will affect the changing business environment, and customer needs.  Read more

Life Cycle Assessment calculation for re-use and remanufacturing situations

Life-long adaptation of products is considered to be the most sustainable way to prevent waste. This is the logic behind assessing design re-use and remanufacturing possibilities. However, what is the actual benefit in terms of environmental impact? This question has been resolved with research conducted during the Use-It-Wisely project through the development of a Circular Life Cycle Assessment (hereinafter C-LCA). The result: a tool that measures the environmental impact of initial production and all adjustments during the lifetime of a piece of furniture. This may then be compared to linear production and use for similar products. Read more

Collaboration for Innovation: Use It Wisely’s Sector Connector Community

Collaboration between previously unconnected sectors has emerged as one of the main benefits of the Use-It-Wisely project. Industrial, SME, academic and research partners have connected their thinking and ways of working to address challenges and objectives they didn’t even know they had in common. This has inspired UIW partners to think outside the box and apply tools and methods from a completely different sector to their own business, with surprising results. Read more

Use-It-Wisely is on its way to Athens

The next plenary meeting will take place in Athens on November 26th and 27th. Partners from all around Europe will travel to the Greek capital to see trials from different industries such as shipping, furniture and truck cabs. Read more
